Help! Blind cat & Litter box problems?
My mom has recently adopted a blind cat, this cat uses the litter box, but still has accidents. The former owner’s house smelled so we think that the cat had accidents then too! My mom is about to take the cat to the humane society, but who wants to adopt a blind cat who isn’t totally litter box trained? So my question is: Can you train a cat to use a litter box EVERY TIME since it is used to going everywhere and if so, how? Any information would be helpful.

First off i would have the cat taken to the vet just to make sure that it doesn’t have a urinary tract infection. This could also cause the cat to have accidents outside of the box. If that is negative then the cat may just be smelling its previous accidents and assuming he is in the right place. A cat will always come back to the areas that he has already used because they smell. Try to clean up really well where there have been accidents. If that does work then maybe the kitty just needs to be re-litter trained. I have never had to litter train a cat from scratch, but I’m sure there are lots of helpful websites and i know that if you ask the vet they would be happy to help. And they may have some pamphlets to help you as well. Good luck. And your mom is doing a great thing by adopting a special needs cat, i hope things do work out!
