Welcome to Lupita Cattery !
Lupita Cattery was registered in
1972 by Imogene Winters and her son, Michael. Although Imogene
passed away in the mid-1990's, Michael has continued to breed
Persians and Exotics.
Michael purchased his first
Persian from his high school Spanish teacher for $50.00. This was
a blue-cream Persian named Lupita
Felicita Azul. Lupita
produced the cattery's first grand champion in her first litter.
Michael and Imogene were hooked!
Michael realized they needed a
cattery name. Since Lupita was part of the cat's name, not a
registered cattery, they chose Lupita to honor their first
pedigreed cat. Lupita is the diminutive of
Guadalupe. (The top border of this site shows Peruvian
tiles depicting the coat of arms of Guadalupe.)
After working for the State
of Tennessee for many years as a social worker, Michael is now
retired and spends his time on his cats and gardening. He
lives in the northeastern corner of Tennessee, down a lovely
tree-covered country road.
The Lupita Exotic program began
with an unregistered shorthaired cat who showed up on Michael's
doorstep. Because the American Shorthair still has an open
registry, this kitty was registered as an ASH and was used to
create the Lupita Exotic line. All of the Lupita Exotics go back
to this cat. Thanks to friends Terry Hyde (Tehy), Donna Andrews (Kyetrak),
Laura Barber (Highlandkatz), Sandra Bell (Ashaby), among others,
who help the Lupita cats make it to the shows.
